The earthquake was not felt by people in the Czech Republic and no damage to buildings or infrastructure is expected here.
The devastating earthquake caused 294 casualties, many injuries and great material damage. By 1.9.2016 it has been followed by more than three thousand aftershocks, 160 of them with magnitude 3.0 and greater. The strongest so far on 24.8.2016 at 4:33 CEST had magnitude 5.3. An increased seismic activity in the region can be expected in the following days and weeks. On 31.8.2016 nine earthquakes occurred with magnitudes ranging from 3.1 to 3.9.
